September 1, 2003

I would like to take this moment to update everyone on our Brownie Troop news. From the voting sheets that I mailed out it has become clear that most people want to change the meeting day to Tuesdays. So I have made arrangements to have our meetings held at the Strausser school in the Art room. The meetings will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Our first meeting will be held on September the 9th. I hope that everyone will still be able to attend since I have something VERY special planned that night for our girls. Also, please do not arrive at the meeting before 6:30 since it is going to take me that long to set everything up that night.

Just like last year I will need to collect $25.00 per girl to help with the cost of the craft supplies. Do not worry if you can not afford it right away, as I will have a new sheet in the Troop Book so that everyone can bring it in a little bit at a time if they wish. There will also be a new snack sign up sheet in the book for everyone to sign up to bring in snacks since most everyone wanted to keep the snacks as part of the meetings.

I have also enclosed a list of all the activities that the Girl Scouts are having this year. This year we are going to do things a little different then last year. I would like for you to go over the list and mark down all the ones that you think that you want your daughter to go to. Please return the form to me at the first meeting. I will then make copies of the forms, and return one copy to you. This way, we will not have to worry about signing up for activities as they come up, unless the council adds something new to the list.

I will try to remind everyone when there is money due for an activity, but if I forget, I have also marked it on the form when the money is due. If I do not have your money by the deadline Im afraid that I will not be able to register your daughter for the activity.

I still have use of the van, and I am willing to drive to all the activities, but the council people are really cracking down on the number of girls and parents going to activities. If we have more then 5 girls going to an activity together Im going to need to ask that at least one other mother come with us on that activity. These are not my rules, they are the Girl Scout rules, and they must be obeyed.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the first meeting, and am hoping that we have just as much fun, or more as we did last year.

Hello Everyone,

Its me again. Can you tell that I like to write notes instead of calling and bugging everyone ? First of all, I would like to thank each and every one of you for getting all that paper work back to me so quickly. This job is a lot harder then I first thought it was going to be, but if everyone helps out like you all did Monday evening its going to make my job a heck of a lot easier. I would also like to let each of you know that I think all of your daughters are very well behaved. I couldnt believe that they were all able to sit there so quietly. I know it must have been hard for them, but I promise that they will hopefully have more fun at the next meeting.

Ok, Ive had some great ideas coming in so I thought that it was time that we voted on them. Ive made up a list of them, and sent it with this newsletter in the hopes that everyone would have enough time to think about the suggestions, and vote for them before our next meeting. Please remember to bring the filed out voting form back to me at our next meeting, or you can mail it to my post office box, which ever you prefer. Also I want to let everyone know that I now have a drop box installed in my front door. If you stop by, and Im not at home you can just slide it into the drop box, and Ill get it as soon as I get home. It wont be too hard to find since its the only apartment door with a Girl Scout sign on it.  HA HA HA !

Oh by the way, I found out today that if anyone has any Girl Scout uniforms that they dont want or need anymore you can take them to the Great Trail Council Center from November 1st to the 8th . You get to name your price, and the Center will take them in on consignment for you. If they are sold then you get to keep all of the money for them. This is a great way to get rid of any Daisy items you are no longer using. It will also help the Big Sisters Closet Uniform Sale taking place on November the 8th and 9th at the Center. If you need more information about it just give me a call, or you can call the Center directly at (330)433-9485.

Speaking of the Center, if you do go over there and buy anything please dont forget to let the cashier know that you are a member of Troop #75, and the cashier will add your purchase price before taxes to our list. Then in January the council will send our troop a five percent rebate check for the total purchases that we made.

I would like to let everyone know that I went over there and bought a ton of patches, and Try-it awards for everyone. So please, if you want to get your daughter a special patch please call me first to see if I have already gotten it for them. I would hate to see someone spending money on something that I have already gotten. Im not going to ask anyone to reimburse me all at once. I just thought that since we were going to be getting a rebate check anyway why not make it for a little bit more. I hope that by doing it this way I have not offended anyone in any way, please forgive me if I have. Remember, all of this is new to me, and Im trying my best to learn as I go along.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to take this moment to update everyone on our Brownie Troop news. At this time we still dont have a troop number, but as soon as I get it I will pass It a long to everyone. I have made arrangements to have our meetings held at the Strausser school in community room 207. The meetings will be held on the first and third Mondays of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Our first meeting will be held on October the 21st. I hope that everyone will be able to attend as we have lots of paperwork that needs to be completed that evening including a medical record for each of the girls. I would also like to collect the $7.00 membership fee for the year at this meeting.

As they explained at the Girl Scout meeting held at Strausser on Oct. 3, the only required clothing item for the Brownies is the Brown Vest which can be purchased at the Great Trail Council center for a cost of $15.50 plus tax. The center is located at 1010 Applegrove Street N.W. North Canton, OH 44720 Phone: (330) 433-9485. They are open Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. I have also been told that you may buy used vest through other sources such as Goodwill or E-bay. By the way, if anyone is having problems getting to the center just let me know. I will be more then happy to pick up whatever you need, as Im going over there all the time.

I would like to let everyone know that I signed our troop up for the Rebate Discount program. If you go to the center and buy anything during the months of October and November please let the cashier know that you are a member of our troop under my name of Anita Wilson, and the cashier will add your purchase price before taxes to our list. Then in January the council will send our troop a five percent rebate check for the total purchases that we made which can go towards something for the girls.

I have already purchased the Golden Insignia pin for each of the girls along with a patch, and a pin that I thought they might enjoy. The cost of these three items total $ 4.95. It would be nice If you could bring that money to the first meeting also, but if you are unable to I will understand, and we can make some other arrangements.

I would like to let all of you know that my daughter Heather and I were members of a Daisy troop last year. So I basically know how the meetings are held and what is evolved with them, but this is the first time that I have ever tried to lead a troop. I would like to thank Lisa who was nice enough to volunteer to become a Co-Leader, and with her help I am hoping to make this a very enjoyable troop for everyone evolved. I would really appreciate any suggestions or comments that you may have in regards to our troop meetings, and what activities you would like to be a part of. For those of you who have use of a computer you may e-mail me at booboo@sssnet.com .  Thank you once again for signing up with our troop, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the first meeting.
